Discover Storage Solutions for Tricky Spaces

edgewood-cabinetry-kitchen-aid.jpgTurn difficult spaces into beautiful places with custom cabinetry and Storage Solutions.

Cramped culinary corners.  Small study spaces. Dim dining displays. Vacuous vanity views.

Whether your home is new, old or in transition, space and storage is often at a premium.  If you are planning a remodel of your current home, just moving in or thinking of moving on, a well-designed living space is both a long-term investment and short-term gratification.  A few reminders for using non-traditional spaces may help you save time, money and aggravation in maximizing your home’s potential.

  1. Think Vertical  Many narrow or deep spaces often have a vertical height to them that while aesthetically awkward may provide an opportunity to install custom cabinets or shelves.  Put lesser-used items at a higher altitude to create more real estate for commonly used articles or create a display case for your art or collections without compromising on your work surface’s real estate.  Slim stepladders and pulldown handles help bring higher shelves into reach.
  2. Lower your Elevation - Banquet seating in cramped breakfast nooks help maximize the smaller space and hidden sliding drawers underneath the bench seating can create a clean storage area for table linens, large or awkward sized entertaining platters or seasonal decorations.  Deep sliding drawers in the kitchen may hold large sets of dishes or heavy pots and pans.  A platform bed with drawers built into the base provides hidden storage for off-season clothing and extra blankets.  Make the most of your space with specialized sizes and shapes to suit your storage needs.
  3. Built-Ins - Difficult corners and angles may be best utilized with a built-in shelving or cabinetry solution.  Cut to order shelves or custom cubbyholes allow wasted space to become areas to highlight your belongings or stow supplies.
  4. Mix It Up - Turn a sterile space into a conversation starter with a custom finish, moldings, appliques and design.  Cleverly deployed cabinet doors, unique pulls and hinges will help a door or drawer in a unit navigate a tricky angle in your room.  Use color to highlight a unique feature in your home, such as an arched doorway or interesting roofline.  Work with your existing space to create a storage solution which is not too heavy and overbearing for the size of your proposed area but highlights the architectural features of the existing space or creates a new interest in a previously dark and inaccessible corner.
  5. Get organized - Tight nooks and crannies often become receptacles for unwanted household items or the proverbial ‘junk drawer’.  Create a design which cleanly flows out into the other rooms of the house and helps display your items or use doors or cabinetry to camouflage a less-than-tidy area.
