Entertainment Centers, Bookcases, and Shelving Have Built-in Features [to} Add Quality and Contain Clutter

Families these days work hard and play hard.  The room that contains the family television usually has its fair share of clutter.  Between the tv, remotes, cable or satellite box, dvd's and video game paraphernalia there's just a lot of stuff to keep track of.  But custom entertainment centers can help control the clutter and make sitting down to watch some tv or a movie an enjoyable experience.
Before ordering an entertainment center, visualize how you want it to look.  There are some things you'll want to hide, while other things need to be accessible.
The cable or satellite box and dvd player aren't that aesthetically pleasing, but they do need to be in open areas so that they can communicate with the remotes.  However they don't take up much space so a small shelf is all that's needed for these items.
Movies and video games tend to make a mess, especially if kids are involved.  A drawer with appropriate-sized dividers is a great way to keep these items neat and accessible.
For many families, video game equipment is an essential part of the entertainment center, but controllers, wires, and battery packs can start to take over.  Decide what size drawer will hold all these items, and plan it into your entertainment center to keep all these things contained.
Now that the clutter is organized, think about what things you'd like to look at on your entertainment center.  Souvenirs from a family vacation, candles, or family photos might be pleasing to look at.  Others might like sports memorabilia or books. With a custom entertainment center, you can plan open spaces to accomodate your own tastes.
You could easily buy a mass produced entertainment center and try to make it work with your electronics, but chances are some things just won't fit right.  A custom entertainment center is a high quality piece of furniture that is specially made to fit your television as well as all the other items that go along with it.  Contact us to find out how to get your entertainment area looking clean instead of cluttered.

Custom Wood Hoods for Your Dream Kitchen

If you think stovetop hoods are installed only for ventilation and light, have we got a treat for you.  A skilled craftsman can create a hood that becomes an important architectural focal point of the kitchen. A well-made hood will help unify all the other design elements of the kitchen into a pleasing whole.
How? Let’s look at some examples:
In the custom work done in the Engleberg home, decorative moldings and corbels were attached to the hood before the whole was painted white and darkened in the crevices to achieve the French country look. Another view shows the additional decorations on the upper hood, as well as the molding which matches that of the rest of the cabinets. The contrast of the cabinetry with the countertops and flooring adds depth and interest to the room while maintaining its character.
The Lippard home showcases a much different hood. Its unique geometrics immediately draw the eye, while the consistency of its color and styling unify the components of the room. Again, the contrasts between the dark wood, the stainless steel appliances, and the mottled tile floor strike a pleasing balance. (The unique tray ceiling is an especially nice touch.)
The Merendino home displays elegant functionality, in that the hood is subordinate to the cabinets over the rangetop. The simplicity of the design highlights the beautiful tile, countertops, and warm wood, while pendant lighting and scrolled corbels add period distinction. Other great features here are the pull-out spice racks hidden behind lovely fluted cabinetry.
These are just a few examples to help get you thinking about what you’d like to see in your kitchen. Edgewood Custom Cabinetry can design, build and install just about anything you want done. So check out our Frequently Asked Questions, then contact us to get started on your project today.

Planning your Kitchen Lighting to Enhance Design and Function

If you are ready to renovate your kitchen, the first thing most people think about is new cabinetry.  This is an important initial step, as it is usually the first thing most people notice about the kitchen.  Next, think about planning your kitchen lighting.  Not only can it make your kitchen more functional while you work and prepare meals, but it will highlight and accent areas to make your custom cabinetry look even better.
Task Lighting in the Kitchen
Because much of your time in the kitchen is spent on food preparation, consider where you will be working and integrate lighting.  Don't plan on one large overhead light doing the job, because you will be casting a shadow over your workspace.  Consider integrating lighting under your cabinets so counter space will be well lit without shadows or a harsh glare.
Accent Lighting
Accent lighting is the kind of feature that sets off features in your kitchen.  It isn't necessary to the utilization of the kitchen, but it can change your kitchen from ordinary to spectacular.  Consider integrating lighting into glass door cabinets to set off heirloom china, or an antique glass collection.  Track lighting or directional eyeball lights can also highlight artwork, a gorgeous backsplash, or any other special feature in your kitchen.
Decorative Kitchen Lights
Once your work space and special features are lit up, you can choose general lighting for the kitchen.  Hanging pendants, recessed lighting, adjustable track lights, or chandeliers are all popular choices in the kitchen.  This is where the homeowner can be creative and choose lighting that accents the style of the cabinetry and makes their kitchen a welcome, inviting space.
Whether you're doing a complete kitchen renovation or just an update, choosing lighting is an important step in the process to make your kitchen productive and aesthetically pleasing.  If you're looking for ideas to transform your kitchen into your dream space, contact us.

Details Make the Difference on Your Cabinet Doors (knobs-pulls)

Once you’ve selected your beautiful new cabinets and decided on the stain or paint of your choice, you may think the choice of knobs or pulls unimportant. Think again: the right hardware adds the supreme finishing touch on your kitchen or bath redo. To see how this happens, let’s look at some specific examples.
First, consider the style of your cabinets. Sleek, modern cabinets call for sleek hardware such as the Arcadian Collection. Another good choice is the Americana Collection. (We like the interactive feature that allows you to see how the hardware looks against various colors and grains.) Or, it’s entirely possible that you may decide your minimalist cabinets require no pulls at all. (Even though these will be equipped with hardware, we rather like the bare look.)
Suppose you lean more toward the rustic look. There again, the hardware should complement the style. The Pineapple Collection, tracing its roots back to Colonial times, may be a great choice for you here. To provide contrast, you will want pewter for dark woods and bronze or rubbed bronze for lighter woods.
The Old World look calls for something a little more elegant and forward, such as the Chateau Collection or the Bordeaux Collection. The number of sizes, styles and finishes of these collections in particular guarantees that you will be able to find the perfect complementary set for your cabinets.
As a matter of fact, we at Edgewood Cabinetry get a volume discount with many accessory suppliers which we can pass on to you. All of the knobs and pulls highlighted above are available through our site, along with numerous other accessories for your kitchen and bath storage needs.
That’s just one more reason to contact Edgewood Cabinetry for your next home redo. Take our Price Match Challenge, and prepare to be amazed. We’ll be waiting to hear from you.
